E-invoicing in UAE is no longer a future project. Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more must appoint an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) by 30 October 2026 and start issuing e-invoices from 1 January 2027. The Ministry of Finance has said this deadline is a final adjustment and that no further extensions will be granted.

This guide to e-invoicing in UAE explains who is covered, the dates that matter, the fines for missing them, and the practical steps to take now.

What e-invoicing in UAE means for your business

An e-invoice is not a PDF sent by email. It is an invoice issued, sent and received as structured data that systems can process automatically. Under the UAE model, the invoice travels from the seller’s ASP to the buyer’s ASP, and the data is reported to the tax authority along the way.

Only an Accredited Service Provider can exchange and report these invoices. The system is based on the international Peppol standard, so your accounting software must be able to produce the data fields the system requires.

Who must comply

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that e-invoicing in UAE applies to all persons conducting business in the UAE for business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions, unless a specific exclusion applies. Business-to-consumer (B2C) sales are excluded for now.

Both sides of a transaction are affected. Issuers must send e-invoices through their ASP, and recipients must receive and process them through the system.

For a large business, a missed 30 October deadline therefore starts costing money straight away.

How to appoint an Accredited Service Provider

The Federal Tax Authority has explained the order of work: select an ASP, sign a contract and integrate, then complete the procedures through the EmaraTax platform.

  1. Check your readiness. Compare your invoice data with the required fields and find gaps in your accounting or ERP system.
  2. Shortlist ASPs. Use the Ministry of Finance list of accredited and pre-approved providers. Compare integration support, pricing model, support hours and experience with your software.
  3. Sign the commercial agreement. Selecting a provider on a screen does not complete the process without a contract.
  4. Onboard through EmaraTax. Confirm your company details are current, then link your chosen provider.
  5. Test. Exchange test invoices before 1 January 2027.

What to prepare before 1 January 2027

Appointing a provider is only one step of e-invoicing in UAE. Review these areas as well:

Businesses that already work with a VAT adviser should align this plan with their VAT compliance process, since the invoice data feeds directly into VAT reporting.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in the second phase. Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million must appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and implement the system by 1 July 2027.

Can I send e-invoices without an ASP?

No. Under e-invoicing in UAE, only an Accredited Service Provider can exchange and report e-invoices.
